Blue Heron Campground Will Remain Open During 2026-2027 Winter Season
Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area will keep Blue Heron Campground, in the park's Kentucky section, open this winter, from December 2026 through March 2027.
NPS calls it a pilot project to find out whether there is enough winter demand to keep the campground open year-round.
The superintendent says the change supports winter recreation and gives campers a quieter season near trails, historic sites, river access and scenic overlooks.
