Privacy
Short version: we collect as little as possible and never sell or share it. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies on Park Lookout.
What we collect
Nothing you type into the site is sent to us. The park search, the closures filters and the state filter all run in your browser, using a park list the site downloads from Park Lookout itself. There are no accounts, logins, comment forms or contact forms.
Hosting and traffic counts
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to run and protect the site, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. We look only at the totals Cloudflare reports, such as daily visitors, page views and browser types. We don’t add any analytics script, ad tag or tracking pixel to our pages.
Cookies and your theme setting
Park Lookout doesn’t set cookies. If you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage (one setting named “theme”) so the site remembers it next time. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to check a visitor for automated bot traffic.
Chip in (optional payments)
If you choose to chip in, the payment page opens on Stripe, which processes the payment under Stripe’s privacy policy. We never see or store your card details. We receive Stripe’s record of the payment (such as the amount and the email you give Stripe for your receipt) and use it only for receipts and bookkeeping.
Links to other sites
Park pages, alerts and news items link to the National Park Service (nps.gov) and other official sources, and the footer links to Stripe and Deskline. Those sites have their own privacy policies. When you follow a link, the other site can see that you came from Park Lookout, but not which page you were on.
In the future some links to tours, lodging, rental cars or gear may be affiliate links. If you click one, the partner’s site may use its own cookies to credit Park Lookout for the visit. See our affiliate disclosure.
Park Lookout doesn’t have an email list right now. If we add a newsletter later, we’ll update this page before it launches.
We never sell your data
We don’t sell, rent or share personal information, and Park Lookout isn’t aimed at children under 13.
