Grand Canyon National Parks Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Measures to Reduce Visual Impacts at Hermits Rest

Grand Canyon National Park · NPS release dated Oct 21, 2026

Grand Canyon National Park is taking public comments through midnight Nov. 6, 2026, on a draft agreement to reduce how visible the replacement water tank at Hermits Rest is.

The tank, installed in 2022, was meant to look like the old one, but new Arizona safety rules added a ladder, platform and cap that stand out within the Hermits Rest National Historic Landmark.

NPS says this is separate from the park's ongoing water system recovery. Comments are submitted on the NPS PEPC planning website.
