Rocky Mountain National Park Prepares for Possible Prescribed Burn
Rocky Mountain National Park is preparing a 437-acre prescribed burn on the east side, between the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and Bear Lake Road, including areas south of High Drive. It could start in late October or any time this winter when conditions allow.
Ignitions will likely happen on weekdays, and smoke may linger for 3 to 10 more days. During burning, expect traffic control on U.S. 36 and Bear Lake Road, possible escorts through the area and possible temporary road closures; stopping along roads in the burn area won't be allowed.
NPS says earlier fuel treatments helped firefighters protect Estes Park during the 2012 Fern Lake and 2020 East Troublesome fires. Questions go to the park's Information Office at (970) 586-1206.
