Most Yellowstone National Park Roads and Entrances Close Nov. 1, 2026, for Winter Season

Yellowstone National Park · NPS release dated Oct 21, 2026

Most Yellowstone roads and the park's West, South and East entrances close to regular vehicle traffic on Nov. 1, which makes Saturday, Oct. 31 the last day to drive most park roads in 2026.

The road from Tower Fall to Canyon Junction (Dunraven Pass) stays open through Oct. 31, weather permitting.

Through the winter, cars can reach the park only on the road between the North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, and the Northeast Entrance at Cooke City/Silver Gate. That route runs through Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction and Lamar Valley and stays open year-round, weather permitting.

Snowmobile and snowcoach season starts Dec. 15.

NPS advises flexible plans, cold-weather essentials and a full gas tank. Road updates are available at (307) 344-2117 or by texting “82190” to 888-777.
